Hon Tama Potaka: No. The Review of the Waitangi Tribunal is focused on the legislation that establishes and governs the Tribunal - the Treaty of Waitangi Act 1975. It does not involve reassessing Crown conduct or Treaty compliance. The Independent Technical Advisory Group (ITAG) has been asked to consider whether the statutory settings of the Tribunal remain fit for purpose. It is not conducting an inquiry into historical or ongoing Crown actions, funding arrangements, or specific claims.
