23391 (2025). Dr Lawrence Xu-Nan to the Minister of Education
Written Question

23391 (2025). Dr Lawrence Xu-Nan to the Minister of Education: How, if at all, will the Ministry of Education be supporting schools and classrooms to find one of the 143 full-time equivalent maths intervention roles?
Hon Erica Stanford: Schools will be able to exercise their own discretion in choosing teachers and relivers. The Ministry will provide the funding directly to the schools for this purpose, along with a set of criteria to ensure that suitably qualified and experienced teachers are employed in the same way they do with structured literacy intervention teachers. The Maths Support trial in 2025 has also trialled the use of adaptive online maths tools, which could also be used in schools and kura where maths teachers are hard to source.
This is also my response to written parliamentary questions 23394 and 23395 (2025).
