The drivers for establishing a new State school are different from establishing a new charter school. Generally, the decision to establish a new State school is made by Ministers, driven by population growth. The decision to apply to establish a new charter school will be made by a sponsor, based on community demand, and approval will sit with the Authorisation Board.
