23372 (2024). Teanau Tuiono to the Minister for Space: Are any specific measures in place to ensure that New Zealand's support of a US military strategy regarding commercial space technologies does not compromise our foreign policy independence?
Hon Judith Collins: All space activities conducted from New Zealand or by New Zealand entities overseas must comply with the Outer Space and High-altitude Activities Act 2017. This includes the requirement to be consistent with our international obligations and not contradict our national interests and national security. National interest considerations include economic or other benefits to New Zealand, any risks to national security, public safety, international relations, or other national interests, and the extent to which the risks can be mitigated by licence or permit conditions
