22917 (2024). Dr Tracey McLellan to the Minister of Corrections: What progress, if any, has been made in the quarter January–March 2024 in implementing the goal ‘Support further research, including research about neurodiversity particularly related to tāngata whaikaha Māori/disabled people who are in the care and management of Ara Poutama Aotearoa', as part of the Disability Action Plan?
Hon Mark Mitchell: I am advised that this is a short term action in Corrections’ Disability Action Plan. I am further advised that Corrections has partnered with Auckland University of Technology, the University of Auckland, the University of Waikato, and SERCO to commission a prevalence survey, which will provide insights into the cognitive abilities (strengths and limitations) of people in prison. Results from this study will inform the development and delivery of interventions and programmes, mental health services, vocational programmes and training for frontline staff.
