22890 (2024). Tamatha Paul to the Minister of Housing: Did the Kāinga Ora independent reviewers consult or engage with any Kāinga Ora tenants, and if not, why not?

Hon Chris Bishop: I am advised that the panel canvassed a wide range of interested parties as part of the discovery phase at the beginning of the review including with Kāinga Ora board members, staff and Public Service Association delegates, stakeholders from the private sector including builders, developers, and product suppliers, Community Housing Provider (CHP) representatives, Iwi and Māori organisations, Councils as well as officials from Ministry of Social Development and Ministry of Housing and Urban Development. Kāinga Ora tenants and the public were able to submit to the review via a review email which was administered by the secretariat. The Secretariat received and reviewed numerous submissions from Kāinga Ora tenants, tenant advocacy groups and representatives detailing issues with tenancy management services, maintenance contracts/procedures and issues with other Kāinga Ora tenants. Complaints that were outside the scope of the review were referred to the Kāinga Ora complaints process or the appropriate authority.
