22864 (2024). Dr Lawrence Xu-Nan to the Minister for Trade: How, if at all, does he intend to ensure that the Fast Track Approvals Bill complies with New Zealand's Free Trade Agreements?

Hon Todd McClay: Under New Zealand’s Free Trade Agreements, and subject to the environmental provisions contained within them, the Government retains its policy discretion as to how to best achieve environmental protection objectives. The Fast-track Approvals Bill allows Ministers to put in place environmental protections that are appropriate to the circumstances of each approval.
