22843 (2025). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: Has Health New Zealand or the Medical Council of New Zealand reviewed the appropriateness of the accreditation and oversight arrangements for the US-based doctor involved in the Kaitāia stroke consultation?
Hon Simeon Brown: As the Member will be aware, in May 2023, under the previous government, Health New Zealand signed a formal contract with a digital health provider to deliver clinical support across various service settings in Northland hospitals. I am advised that all clinical staff engaged via a digital health provider are required to be appropriately qualified, registered with the relevant statutory body, and hold a current practicing certificate. I am advised that the doctor that saw the patient referred to in recent media was trained in New Zealand, registered with the New Zealand Medical Council, and holds current registration. I also refer the Member to Written Parliamentary Question 22842 (2025).
