22713 (2025). Shanan Halbert to the Minister for Vocational Education: Which Workforce Development Councils, if any, have industry appointed boards or board members?

Hon Penny Simmonds: Each of the six Workforce Development Councils (WDC) has a governing council, the membership of which is appointed in accordance with the specific requirements in each WDC’s Order in Council. Members are appointed by the specific council itself, with the exception of Ringa Hora and Muka Tangata where the Minister for Vocational Education has some responsibility for making appointments (based on recommendations put forward by the respective WDC which is informed by engagement with industry). All of the governing councils are required to have a minimum number of members who have been nominated by industry and/or unions to represent the employers and employees of the specified industries covered by the WDC.
