21953 (2025). Hon Jo Luxton to the Minister for Biosecurity: What assessment, if any, has the Government made of the natural capital asset risk associated with the spread of exotic Caulerpa?

Hon Andrew Hoggard: Biosecurity New Zealand has contracted Auckland University to undertake a study of the ecological impacts of exotic caulerpa in New Zealand. The National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (NIWA) was contracted to investigate the cause of the die-off events that occurred at some locations over the course of the last summer.
