21863 (2025). Francisco Hernandez to the Minister of Defence: How, if at all, does the Minister or any member of their office use Artificial Intelligence when formulating responses to parliamentary written questions and oral questions in the House?

Hon Judith Collins: I have been advised that to date members of my office haven't, and nor have I, used generative Artificial Intelligence when formulating responses to parliamentary written questions and oral questions in the House. However, Minister’s offices and agencies are free to use / encouraged to use GenAI in ways that are safe, transparent and responsible, in alignment with the recently released Responsible AI Guidance for the Public Service: GenAI. This includes ensuring that there is human review of GenAI outputs used to support the development of content such as advice and communications.
