21846 (2025). Shanan Halbert to the Minister for Vocational Education: What evidence, if any, shows that apprentices and other workers will be more connected to the realities of the jobs and industries they're working towards as a result of proposed changes to the work-based learning model?
Hon Penny Simmonds: At the start of this year, I publicly consulted on the future arrangements for work-based learning. A strong theme from that consultation was that Industry voice is essential to the VET system. The changes to the work-based learning model means increased industry leadership in the form of Industry Skills Boards which will ensure that vocational education aligns closely with industry requirements. Apprenticeships and traineeships will be taught, as they always have been, primarily in the workplace which has a built-in connection with the realities of the job.
