21826 (2025). Dr Tracey McLellan to the Minister of Corrections: What rehabilitation has been made available to prisoners and how many people have started and completed each service for each prison, if any, since the law change the Minister referred to on Newstalk ZB, 5 May 2025 when he said “when we came into government, we made sure that prisoners on remand who don’t get access to rehabilitation can get access to rehabilitation now, we changed the law around that"?
Hon Mark Mitchell: I am advised that Corrections reports on rehabilitation programmes, as well as shorter psychoeducational modules and skills-based programmes which are also rehabilitative in nature. I refer the member to the attached table which provides the number of people on remand who started or completed a rehabilitation programme between 1 October 2024 and 30 April 2025, broken down by prison and rehabilitation programme. I also refer the member to the attached table which provides the number of people on remand who started or completed a psychoeducational module or skills-based programme. Work is underway to expand rehabilitation programmes for remand prisoners following the additional investment for this in Budget 2024.
