21403 (2025). Francisco Hernandez to the Minister for Land Information: What training, if any, was provided to staff in the Minister's office regarding the handling of sensitive information, and did the training contain information warning against the use of personal emails in conducting work-related business?
Hon Chris Penk: All Ministerial Office staff (including seconded staff) must acknowledge that they have read DIA’s Security Requirements for Handling Sensitive Material. Staff should also be aware of the contents of the Cabinet Manual (Chapter 8 in particular), the Department of Internal Affairs Security Policy, the Parliamentary Campus Security Policy and such other security policy documents on the Ministerial Office Intranet.
I have been advised that the Private Secretary (Land Information) is required to complete an induction module upon joining Land Information New Zealand, which makes it clear that staff should never use personal email to conduct official work or vice versa.
