21083 (2025). Francisco Hernandez to the Minister of Statistics: Is the Minister concerned that the cancellation of Statistics New Zealand's 'Household living-costs price indexes: March 2025 quarter (HLPI)' survey will reduce New Zealander's understandings of how inflation affects different groups within society, including low income groups?
Hon Dr Shane Reti: As noted in my answer to written question 21081 (2025), I am advised that Stats NZ is undertaking technical work on the Household living-costs price indexes. I am advised that no decision has been made to cancel this index. I am also advised that Stats NZ is confident that, in the interim, its suite of economic data gives a well-rounded picture of the economy and inflation. Stats NZ is working with its customers to understand the impacts of this on them, and to find interim, or work-around solutions.
