21034 (2025). Hon Willow-Jean Prime to the Minister for Children: How, if at all, does Oranga Tamariki audit case closure decisions?
Hon Karen Chhour: I am advised by Oranga Tamariki that audits of case closure decisions are conducted through a combination of supervisory oversight, internal quality checks and semi-independent case file analysis. I am further advised that all case closures must be approved by a supervisor to ensure the needs of the tamariki have been met and that the decision aligns with legislative, policy and business requirements. Furthermore, there are always opportunities to escalate a decision if there are complex issues to consider, ensuring more robust decision making is included in the process.
