21031 (2025). Hon Willow-Jean Prime to the Minister for Children: How many hours of professional development, if any, are Oranga Tamariki social workers required to participate in?

Hon Karen Chhour: I am advised by Oranga Tamariki that a registered social worker is required to complete a minimum of 20 hours per year of continuing professional development and to keep an accurate record of this learning. The Social Work Registration Board undertakes regular audits to gauge compliance with this requirement. I am further advised that Oranga Tamariki provide various learning programmes which range in duration, and dependent on which area of work the Social Worker is placed.
