20308 (2026). Hon Kieran McAnulty to the Minister of Housing: How much, if anything, did Kāinga Ora spend on maintenance so far in 2025/26 for the 833 state housing properties sold to 22 May 2026 in 2025/26 and how does that figure breakdown by costs associated with the building and costs associated with the land?
Hon Chris Bishop: Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities advises me that, of the 839 Kāinga Ora properties sold between 1 July 2025 and 31 May 2026, $816,464 was spent on these homes in the 2025/26 financial year to date. This spend includes all costs related to maintaining these properties in that financial year, noting that while homes are tenanted Kāinga Ora must undertake maintenance to ensure the home continues to meet required letting standards. Kāinga Ora advises me that to separate out spend associated with land or buildings would require significant manual reconciliation. To provide the breakdown requested would take substantial effort and collation. In accordance with SR 210/6 I consider that the time, and hence the expense, of answering this question cannot be justified in this case.
