20213 (2026). Debbie Ngarewa-Packer to the Associate Minister of Health: What modelling, if any, has Pharmac undertaken on how removing Māori ethnicity eligibility criteria would affect Māori access to the Type 2 diabetes medicines currently subject to the proposed changes?

Hon David Seymour: I am advised that Pharmac has undertaken a budgetary impact analysis to estimate the number of people who are expected to be affected by this proposed change to the criteria. Pharmac estimates that in the first year of the proposed changes being introduced an additional 10,000 people would be able to access these medicines, growing to 23,000 people over five years.
