20203 (2026). Debbie Ngarewa-Packer to the Minister of Education: Why does the Government's equity framework not include expanding Māori governance and authority over Māori-medium education as a funded priority, given that Māori-medium kura and wharekura consistently deliver strong NCEA outcomes?

Hon Erica Stanford: As articulated in my Cabinet paper on the Government’s Māori Education Action Plan, I committed to working with Te Matakahuki on shared priorities. I meet regularly with both the organisations that make up Te Matakahuki as well as Te Matakahuki as a collective. The Ministry of Education also meets regularly with each of the organisations within Te Matakahuki to advance shared priorities.
