Debbie Ngarewa-Packer to the Minister of Education: Did the Minister consult with kura kaupapa Māori before announcing plans to replace NCEA with a new qualification framework, noting Te Rūnanga Nui o Ngā Kura Kaupapa Māori o Aotearoa’s public statement that “the consultation process, which closes September 15, is too short to meet Treaty expectations of genuine partnership"?

Hon Erica Stanford: I am advised that the Ministry engaged with representatives from Te Rūnanga Nui o Ngā Kura Kaupapa Māori o Aotearoa about the potential changes prior to public consultation beginning in August 2025. Officials also engaged with Ngā Kura ā Iwi o Aotearoa in relation to kura ā iwi.
