19954 (2026). Francisco Hernandez to the Prime Minister: How, if at all, has artificial intelligence been deployed in a customer service function in the Minister’s departments, agencies, crown entities and any other bodies that the Minister is responsible for, if any?

Rt Hon Christopher Luxon: In my capacity as Prime Minister, I am the responsible minister for the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (DPMC). DPMC is not a service delivery agency, however, I am advised that its staff are empowered to use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to enhance their work within the guidance set out in the Public Service AI Framework, Responsible AI Guidance for the Public Sector and its own AI policy.
