19938 (2025). Arena Williams to the Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs: Since 2015, how many banks in New Zealand, if any, have been penalised for not writing the address of the bank on an envelope to a consumer?
Hon Scott Simpson: My office does not hold this information. My example illustrated how under the current legislation, lenders could be subject to unreasonable penalties for minor and inconsequential omissions. If there have been any cases of this occurring, and if the Commerce Commission decided to investigate those cases, the information would be publicly available on the Commerce Commission’s website at https://comcom.govt.nz/case-register.
