19896 (2026). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister for Tertiary Education: What proportion, if any, of the planned investment in infrastructure for the proposed University of Waikato medical school is already funded, and from which funding sources?
Hon Penny Simmonds: The Government has approved $82.85 million to support the establishment of the New Zealand Graduate School of Medicine, with the University of Waikato responsible for funding the remainder (approximately $152 million).
Payment of the Government’s contribution is by instalments in accordance with a funding agreement between the Ministry of Health and the University of Waikato. The specifics of this agreement are commercially sensitive.
