19876 (2026). Hon Kieran McAnulty to the Minister of Housing: How were the 537 Community Housing Provider redirects that were delivered between 1 July 2025 and 31 March 2026 funded and for each budget or programme source, how many houses were funded?
Hon Chris Bishop: Redirects are not funded at a programme level but through the Social Housing Multi-Category Appropriation. As noted, 537 total redirects were funded over the specified time-period.
All 2,050 places funded by the Government through Budgets 2024 and 2025 are new supply.
The total number of redirects include places that need to be secured quickly, such as to support Housing First or Rapid Rehousing as well as a capped level of places agreed with individual Community Housing Providers to enable management of their social housing portfolio (such as refurbishing a property). Only active IRRS tenancies are captured in social housing stock so redirects do not typically increase overall supply.
