19847 (2026). Tangi Utikere to the Minister for State Owned Enterprises: How much notice did New Zealand Post give to affected store owners before it publicly announced, in January 2026, the removal of services from 142 stores, and how many of those store owners were informed of the decision only through that public announcement?
Hon Simeon Brown: I am advised that NZ Post gave all retail agents at least 90 days formal notice as required under the contract, most of them were given longer notice than this. Stores that were identified as selling low volume of postal products were informed about NZ Post’s plan to remove services in October 2025. I am advised that all store owners were informed by NZ Post in writing preceded by a phone call from their regional manager.
