19812 (2026). Dr Tracey McLellan to the Minister of Corrections: Does the Minister believe the current prison system has the staffing and infrastructure capacity required to safely manage the growing prison population?
Hon Mark Mitchell: One of my main priorities as Minister of Corrections is to ensure that there is enough capacity to accommodate anyone who needs to be in prison. I am advised that Corrections have worked hard to optimise existing capacity to safely and securely accommodate the prison population.
Corrections is continuing to make a concerted effort to recruit, retain and train frontline custodial staff, and it is continuing to see positive results from its recruitment campaign.
