19776 (2025). Hon Willow-Jean Prime to the Minister of Police: What, if any, changes have Police made to their approach to allegations regarding abuse or torture in care, as noted in the Cabinet Paper entitled 'Redress for survivors of torture at the Lake Alice Child and Adolescent Unit?

Hon Mark Mitchell: I am advised that from 2010 onwards, significant changes have been made to Police policy, particularly concerning the investigation of adult sexual assault and child protection. A victim centric approach with staff who are more trauma informed has continued to develop since then, and this approach continues to evolve and strengthen. Survivors who report abuse in care to Police will be believed from the outset, and Police will investigate any allegation of abuse in care, including torture, as called for in Recommendation 6 of the Royal Commission’s final report.
