Hon Chris Penk: The Government has provided a range of support to Wellington City and its residents following the April 2026 flood and will continue to provide support within current funding settings. This support includes: • Support through the Wellington Mayoral Relief Fund: In late April 2026, the Government contributed $100,000 to the Wellington Mayoral Relief Fund. This fund provides small, targeted grants to help vulnerable people with immediate needs where other support may not be available. It complements support from councils, community organisations, businesses, and central government programmes. • Support to local authorities: The Government supports councils through National Emergency Management Agency arrangements. Eligible welfare costs are fully reimbursed. Eligible response and essential infrastructure repair costs are reimbursed at 60 percent above council thresholds. Councils have indicated they will submit claims for the April event. The Government’s response has focused on meeting immediate welfare needs, providing targeted financial support, and sharing response and recovery costs with councils to restore essential services.
