19701 (2026). Debbie Ngarewa-Packer to the Minister of Education: What specific accountability mechanisms, if any, now exists to ensure mainstream schools are delivering culturally responsive teaching for Māori students, given the Government has removed the statutory requirement for school boards to give effect to Te Tiriti o Waitangi?
Hon Erica Stanford: School boards remain accountable for improving outcomes for Māori students through existing planning, curriculum, and review settings.
Under the Education (School Planning and Reporting) Regulations 2023, boards must set out in their strategic plans how they will achieve equitable outcomes for Māori learners.
