Debbie Ngarewa-Packer to the Minister of Education: Does the Minister believe that culturally responsive teaching improves Māori achievement in English-medium schools, and if so, what funded policy has she introduced since November 2023 to strengthen culturally responsive practice specifically in English-medium settings?

Hon Erica Stanford: A range of PLD is required to raise student achievement and while significant focus has been on culturally responsible practise in the past, we are moving the focus to literacy, maths, and high-impact explicit teaching given there has been less focus on those areas prior to this Government.
