19698 (2026). Debbie Ngarewa-Packer to the Minister of Education: What is the Government’s measurable target, if any, for closing the achievement gap between Māori and non-Māori students in English-medium mainstream schools by December 2030?

Hon Erica Stanford: The Government’s target is that, by December 2030, 80 percent of Year 8 students are at or above the expected curriculum level for their age in reading, writing and maths. This applies to all students in English-medium schools.
