19620 (2024). Hon Willow-Jean Prime to the Minister for Children: How many, if any, children and youth fall into the serious and persistent offending behaviour category, for each age group up until 24 years, (ie: how many at age 5 years, at age 6 years, etc. up to and including 24 years)?
Hon Karen Chhour: I am advised by Oranga Tamariki that the serious and persistent offending behaviour measure has only been calculated for children (10-13) and young people (14-17). In the 12 months to 30 June 2023, there were 204 children and 877 young people with serious and persistent offending behaviour. Of the 877 young people, 166 were aged 17.
