Ricardo Menéndez March to the Minister for Social Development and Employment: Of the current debt owed to the government by people receiving benefits, what proportion of the debt is held by people receiving Jobseeker Support, Sole Parent Support, and the Supported Living Payment, broken down by each of these categories?

Hon Louise Upston: I refer the member to the attached table, which provides the number of clients and amount of current debt owed by client on current, suspended, and expired benefit status as at 31 March 2024. Due to how debts are managed in the Ministry of Social Development's (the Ministry) systems, the Ministry is unable to provide a breakdown for current clients only, of whether the debt arose from overpayments or fraud.
