Rt Hon Christopher Luxon: There have been a total of six requests for exemptions to the ‘Ministerial Self-drive Vehicle Selection Policy’ since 27 November 2023. The main reason for the exemption to the policy is the requirement to travel to remote rural locations with little or no charging stations available. Of these requests, four were approved outright. One was initially declined but following consideration of a further exemption request and additional information it was subsequently approved.
