19335 (2025). Tamatha Paul to the Minister of Housing: What safeguards are in place to ensure tenants are not displaced or disadvantaged during the pausing or cancelling of housing developments, particularly vulnerable populations such as the elderly or disabled, if any?
Hon Chris Bishop: Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities advises me that, to ensure tenants are not displaced or disadvantaged when a housing development is paused or cancelled, it follows a process where tenants are not placed into homes until construction is finished, and code of compliance certificate has been given. Additionally, the planning for tenant allocation commences as buildings approach completion. Consequently, any pause or cancellation of a development occurs before tenant placement, stopping any impact on them.
