19293 (2025). Hon Willow-Jean Prime to the Minister for Children: Were there any design features of the Oranga Tamariki military-style academy that outlined a response to any potential reoffending, if so, what were they?

Hon Karen Chhour: I am advised by Oranga Tamariki that the potential for re-offending was always considered in relation the Military-Style Academy Pilot participants. Programming during the in-residence phase focussed on the risk factors that can potentially lead to offending behaviours and on supporting the young people to develop coping and mitigation strategies. This work has continued in the community stage and is supported by psychologists, social workers, and mentors.
