19288 (2025). Hon Julie Anne Genter to the Minister of Transport: Does the scope of the second Mt Victoria tunnel and SH1 improvements in Wellington include new safe walking and cycling access between the Basin Reserve and Hataitai, and if so, will this be funded as part of the RONS project?

Hon Chris Bishop: NZTA is currently completing an investment case for the SH1 Wellington Improvements project, which will confirm further details of the scope, design and funding arrangements for the project, including for any walking and cycling elements. Any investment in walking and cycling infrastructure will need to be consistent with the Government Policy Statement on land transport 2024. I am advised that the investment case is due to be completed by mid-2025 after which it will be considered by the NZTA Board.
