19240 (2025). Tamatha Paul to the Minister of Corrections: When does the Minister expect the Waikeria Prison expansion to be completed?

Hon Mark Mitchell: I am advised that the the existing development of the new facility at Waikeria Prison, which will provide an additional 600 beds, including 96 dedicated mental health beds, achieved practical completion in April 2025 and is in a commissioning phase to bring this into operation later this year. I am further advised that a date of completion for the 810-bed Waikeria Prison expansion has not yet been determined.
