19162 (2026). Hon Kieran McAnulty to the Minister of Housing: How many households, if any, does the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development estimate will be required to transition from affordable rentals to market rentals each year as a result of the new annual eligibility requirements?

Hon Chris Bishop: As noted in the eligibility criteria for affordable rentals under the Flexible Fund, affordable rentals are intended to bridge the gap between rents in social housing and private housing to help households move towards housing independence. I am advised that the Ministry has not estimated the number of households that are expected to transition to market rentals. As outlined in the eligibility criteria, households that are no longer eligible for affordable rentals will be expected to move to a private rental no longer than 12 months after becoming ineligible.
