19001 (2026). Hon Dr Deborah Russell to the Minister of Justice: Has the Minister requested any advice on whether amending the Climate Change Response Act 2002 to remove tort liability for greenhouse gas emissions reduces incentives for major emitters to decarbonise, and if so, what is the date and scope of that request?
Hon Paul Goldsmith: I have not requested such advice. However, emitters will continue to be required to meet their obligations under the Emissions Trading Scheme. This change simply maintains the coherence of the regulatory system to deliver consistent obligations to greenhouse gas emitters.
