18949 (2026). Dr Tracey McLellan to the Minister of Corrections: What operating and capital contingencies were established by Cabinet for Phase 1 of the Christchurch Men’s Prison redevelopment?
Hon Mark Mitchell: The information that the member has requested is commercially privileged in nature. I have considered whether it is within the public interest to disclose the amount of contingencies set, but have ultimately decided that, given negotiations are still being finalised, it is within the public interest that this information is withheld to protect the commercial negotiating position of Corrections. I can confirm that Cabinet has approved an indicative capital cost of approximately $700–$800 million and the PPP delivery approach.
