18769 (2026). Tangi Utikere to the Minister for Economic Growth: What assessment, if any, has the Ministry made of the impact of the Strait of Hormuz closure on fertiliser supply to New Zealand, after bulk carrier visits fell 18.7 percent between Q1 2025 and Q1 2026 and the Persian Gulf accounts for roughly 30 percent of internationally traded fertiliser?
Hon Nicola Willis: The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, in conjunction with other agencies including the Ministry for Primary Industries, is actively tracking the supply of a range of key products used in New Zealand. While a significant share of New Zealand's fertilisers is sourced from the Middle East, the Ministry has not been advised of any imminent shortages. They are continuing to monitor the situation given the importance of fertilisers across the economy.
