18766 (2026). Dr Lawrence Xu-Nan to the Minister of Education: In response to Reply 17277 (2026), will the cost of damages, if any, to those 9 schools be covered by insurance; if so, what is the excess that will be paid for each claim; if not, how will the damages be covered?
Hon Erica Stanford: I am advised that five of the nine schools have requested funding assistance for flood related property damage. Damage to four of the schools will be covered by the Ministry of Education’s School Building Insurance Funding Programme; no excess is payable by the schools. The cost for one school will be covered under the Ministry’s Emergency Response Co-ordinator contract, and an existing construction contract. The Ministry is not anticipating costs at the remaining four schools as issues at these schools have either resolved naturally (surface water receded) or have been dealt with as an operational issue by the school.
