Hon Willow-Jean Prime to the Minister for Children: Further to 5259 (2026), what specific progress, if any, has been made during the residential phase of the second Oranga Tamariki Military-Style Academy to ensure that participants have a key ‘anchor activity’ on return to the community (such as education or employment)?

Hon Karen Chhour: I am advised that during the residential phase, clinical residential staff engage every week in both group and one-on-one sessions with the young people, to identify their strengths and interests to help find a suitable anchor activity for when they return to community (employment, training, volunteering or further education). The transition process, which includes three transition hui for each young person across an 18-week period, focuses on developing a robust and supportive plan for each young person. I am further advised that a new role of Transition Delivery Lead was established for the second Military-Style Academy and is focused on supporting the young people with employment and training options and connecting them with support services.
