18736 (2026). Hon Willow-Jean Prime to the Minister for Children: Further to 5259 (2026), what, if anything, has been implemented in the second Oranga Tamariki Miliary-Style Academy to increase coordination and collaboration across residence, social work and Multi-Disciplinary teams?
Hon Karen Chhour: I am advised that Multi-Disciplinary Team conversations with professionals began when the young people were identified as being suitable to participate in the second Military-Style Academy (MSA) programme. Multi-Disciplinary Team meetings have been happening since week 3 of the residential programme and are occurring weekly. Social workers, as well as clinical residence staff, education and health professionals attend the Multi-Disciplinary Team meetings. In addition, the MSA programme team is supported by the recently created Young Serious Offender (YSO) Practice Lead position, which was created to support practice aligned with the YSO framework, including supporting the social workers working with the young people on the second MSA programme.
