18733 (2026). Hon Willow-Jean Prime to the Minister for Children: Further to 5243 (2026), what progress, if any, has Oranga Tamariki made to get quality programming for young people in youth justice residences?

Hon Karen Chhour: Oranga Tamariki youth justice residences provide a range of programmes for young people. I am advised that some programming is provided by external providers, some by the school operating at the residence and some by Oranga Tamariki staff. I am further advised that programming includes skills-based learning such as budgeting, cooking and preparing food, physical activities/sport and wellbeing and cultural programmes. There is currently a procurement process underway to identify suitable suppliers to deliver targeted programmes for Youth Justice and Care and Protection residences.
