18591 (2026). Arena Williams to the Minister for Building and Construction: Does the Minister believe there is a consumer risk for extending the granny flat exemption to include Structural Insulated Panels with a CodeMark certificate; if so, what protections exist for consumers in exemption process?
Hon Chris Penk: I consider that specifically providing for Structural Insulated Panel systems (SIPs) with a CodeMark certificate in Schedule 1A of the Building Act 2004 does not present any substantial additional risk to those under the current requirements. A CodeMark certificate provides independent assurance that a building product or method meets the building code.
