18581 (2026). Lan Pham to the Minister of Local Government: What advice, if any, has the Minister received from Taumata Arowai on the risk of elevated nitrates in water to households on private drinking water supplies?

Hon Simon Watts: In 2024, following the elevated nitrate levels in source water in the Lower Waihao rural water supply, the Water Services Authority – Taumata Arowai informed the Minister of the assurance sought from Waimate District Council that it had informed affected consumers, including domestic self-supplies, of the issue and advised how to manage it.
