18556 (2026). Ingrid Leary to the Minister of Transport: How is the government ensuring current works, in the Mosgiel and wider Taieri area, do not preclude future freight separation, if at all?

Hon Chris Bishop: I am advised by the NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) that optimising the current state highway network is needed before considering any larger scale capital investments. This approach does not preclude the consideration of a future heavy vehicle route if there was a need and a case could be made to support it.
